Cebes

Cebes was a less famous disciple of Socrates. Since Plato was the one disciple that wrote the most about the famous master, Cebes deserves but a few mentions in the Platonic dialogues. However, his importance comes from the fact that he is supposed to have written a dialogue that many Christians consider truly inspiring: the Tabula of Cebes. In the dialogue, the philosopher describes an old painting in a way as to draw important life lessons from it.

Cebes foi um discípulo menos famoso de Sócrates. Uma vez que Platão foi o discípulo que mais escreveu sobre o famoso mestre, Cebes mereceu apenas umas poucas menções nos diálogos platônicos. Contudo, sua importância vem do fato de que lhe é atribuído um diálogo muito apreciado pelos cristãos: a Tábula de Cebes. No diálogo, o filósofo descreve uma velha pintura de modo a retirar dela importantes lições de vida.

Refrigerium

Refrigerium is a Latin word that means "funerary banquet". It was a common practice among the Romans to celebrate a friend´s or a relative´s death by eating a meal in his or her honor. It is here a reminder that frienship is rather supposed to be celebrated while the two parties are still alive.

Refrigério é uma palavra latina que significa "banquete funerário". Era uma prática comum entre os romanos celebrar a morte de um amigo ou parente através de uma refeição que era partilhada em sua homenagem. O termo é, aqui, uma lembrança de que temos de celebrar a amizade enquanto ainda estamos vivos e não após a morte do amigo ou amiga.
